2009 Winter Olympics and Mexican Toga Party

From the 2009 Mexican Toga Party & Winter Olympics

The Mexican Toga Party and Winter Olympics will be at Boomerang Billy’s Beach Bar in South Padre Island, TX on Sunday February 24th, 2013. Join us for some fun in the sun -watch the waves, eat some food, have some drinks, listen and dance to the music of Leslie Blasing.

Leslie Blasing’s Mexican Toga Party and Winter Olympic is an annual event that she shares with the International Idiots Club and her friends on South Padre Island and South Texas. She will be serving some tamales, beans, fresh veggies with dip and other things that keep Olympians and spectators strong for this year’s competition.

The food will be served around 12:30 and the Winter Olympic Games will start around 1:30pm. The sign up for the games will start around 1:00. There are a limited amount of contestants that will be allowed to compete in each catagory:

Two-Man Bobsled
Ice Hockey
I-Scream Eating
Best Mexican Toga
The Famous Two-Man Luge

Leslie’s history of the Mexican toga party: It all started 30 years ago at The Blasing Farm outside of Hondo, Texas. When I was a junior in high school and wanted to have a party after our high school junior/senior play performance of M*A*S*H* (I was Hot Lips!)

At this Toga Party I wanted to serve Mexican food, so I decided to call it a Mexican Toga Party. Around this same time, the steady entourage of friends that were always at our farm, decided to have certain games with staunch competion – horseshoes was a mainstay, strobe light tennis, tetherball and other games were added through the years. It is only fitting that these games, food and fun have lasted througout the years and traveling with me all the way down here to the Island. The experience is priceless!! Make sure you join in as an Olympian or on the sidelines in your Toga cheering on your favorite athletes into the history books for the 33rd year celebration!

Save the Ta Ta’s Auction a Big Success

Final tally: The Ta Ta’s Auction raised over $1100.00 for VRMC!

The 2012 Save the Ta Ta’s Auction was held on October 21st at Boomerang Beach Bar in South Padre Island, TX. Leslie Blasing and the International Idiots Club sponsored the 2nd Annual Save the Ta Ta’s Bra Auction to support the VRMC provide mammograms for women who could not otherwise afford them. We’ve included a photo gallery of the event and you can see there was ‘lots of support’ for the event. Everyone had a great time and the fundraiser provides a real benefit to the community.

Save the Ta Ta’s Bra Auction

Join Leslie Blasing and the International Idiots Club for the 2nd Annual Save the Ta Ta’s Bra Auction to support the VRMC provide mammograms for women who could not otherwise afford them.

The Bra Auction will be October 21st, 2012 at Boomerang Billys Beach Bar in South Padre Island, TX. Please donate a decorated bra for the auction. All proceeds will be donated to the VRMC to support free mammograms for local women who otherwise could not afford to get a mammogram.

Bra donations will be accepted until 1:00 PM. The Save The Ta Ta’s Bra Auction will start at 2:00 PM. Be sure to bring extra cash to bid on your favorite bras!

Sand Castle Days South Padre Island

Master Sand sculptors Walter McDonald (aka Amazin Walter) and Lucinda Wierenga (aka Sandy Feet) are South Padre Island residents and 25 years ago started Sandcastle Days as a way to demonstrate the magical sculpting qualities of South Padre Island sand AND the critical importance of protecting our beautiful coastal shores.

Over the years this FREE family-fun event has grown from a local celebration to qualifying event for the World Championships of Sand Sculpting where 30,000+ fans come to watch the sand come alive. Admission to this year’s event is FREE and boasts a new location, live music, art booths, great food, and an exciting new evening.

2012 International Idiots Club Memorial Day Boot Camp

It’s that time of year. The International Idiots Club will have it’s Annual Memorial Day Boot Camp on Sunday May 27, 2012. The time is 2:00 PM. The location is at Boomerang Billy’s Beach Bar, 2612 Gulf Blvd, in South Padre Island, Texas.

Remember – It’s on Sunday, Not Monday

This annual event is a lot of fun. The competitions will include an obstacle course, a rifle range, and a grenade throw. You can sign-up for the competitions in advance or sign-up at the event. There will be time to register for each competition when you arrive at Boomerang Billy’s Beach Bar.

Volunteers are needed to help setup the competitions. If you’re inclined to volunteer, contact John Rogers at 757-871-7761.

2012 SPI Polar Bear Dip at Boomerang Billy’s Beach Bar

The 14th Annual Polar Bear Dip will be on New Years Day 2012. Join hundreds from South Padre Island and around the world for a refreshing dip in the Gulf of Mexico. International Idiots welcome! You never know about the weather. Some years it’s no so much a challenge, then some years its very cold. See the video below from 2010 when it was blowing cold.

Registration begins at 10 AM at Boomerang Billy’s Beach Bar behind the Surf Motel on South Padre Island. The dip starts promptly at noon. Don’t miss this years SPI New Years Day Polar Bear Dip.

Independence Day Celebration 2011

Since the 4th of July, 2011, was on a Monday this year, the Idiots Club decided to celebrate the Nation’s Birthday Sunday, July 3rd. Any day you can express your freedom and honor the United States is a very good reason to party and have fun.

Besides the Idiot’s Club Celebration several other things took place that day. We had a “Fly Over” performed by the Commemorative Air Force – Rio Grande Valley Wing (www.rgvwingcaf.com) which is always a crowd pleaser. The aircraft did a couple of low level passes and received a thunderous applause and cheering from the all of the Idiots at “Boomies” (www.boomerangbillysbeachbar.com) as well as the crowds on the beach.

The Idiot’s Club has joined with the American Military Support group (located nearby in the Harlingen, Texas). The purpose of the group is to collect money and items to send to our active Military Personnel who live in the Rio Grande Valley and are currently stationed overseas. Please visit their Web Site at www.americanmilitarysupport.com.

Elsewhere on our Web Site is related information about the group and, as a side note, it cost them $3,000 dollars to mail 250 “care packages” which they call “Quality Of Life” packages, so any donations you would like to make to them is greatly appreciated. If possible, add a notation that you are an Idiot Club member so they know that we are behind their effort as well.
