On Sunday, January 22, 2012, the International Idiots Club will be holding the annual Idiot Appreciation Day during our regular business meeting hours from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM (remember we are still on Island Time, so plan accordingly) at the Club Headquarters located at Boomerang Billy’s Beach Bar and Grill, South Padre Island, TX.

Included will be assorted Idiot games with the chance to win awards, there will be raffles for some fantastic prizes and gift certificates.

The highlight of the day will be announcing the person who was voted as the 2011 IDIOT OF THE YEAR. Who knows, it could even be you or some other Idiot you know.

If you have a nomination as to who think is deserving of this very prestige award, please send the following information via e-mail to:

Please include the following information in the message you send:

• Your Name (you must be a current member of the Club)
• The Name of the Idiot You are Nominating  (they must also be a current member. If you don’t know, we will check using our highly sophisticated data tracking system, consisting of scraps of paper and brightly colored crayons)
• Also, a short explanation of what, when and where. We do not need to know why because if they are members of the Club we all pretty well know the answer to that one.

Please send in your nominations not later than Midnight on Wednesday, 01/18/12 as we will announce the winner at the APPRECIATION DAY EVENT.

Your donation will directly assist with the distribution of Quality of Life packages mailed to our RGV Valley troops overseas.

I would like to encourage everyone to attend the South Padre Island Memorial Day Events including the Purple Heart Memorial Trail Dedication Ceremony and the Veterans Day Concert with Leslie Blazing.

Although it is not an INTERNATIONAL IDIOTS CLUB sponsored function and since some members have asked about the Club’s involvement and participation, I thought I would inform those interested in attending about the events that will take place.

This City of South Padre Island is receiving the Honor of helping to dedicate the Purple Heart Memorial Trail at 2:30 PM at Schlitterbahn Waterpark and Leslie will be provide a Veterans Day Concert at at 4:00 PM at the Shrimp House.

Lora and I will be there, at both events, representing the American Military Support organization in collecting donations and items for the local Rio Grande Valley soldiers overseas.

Since the American Military Support has been supported in the past by a donation from the Idiots Club I would encourage everyone to attend either or both events. If possible, please print out the poster that can be found on the web site listed above and post it at your place of business or other places that you feel would be willing to display the information.

The American Military Support organization is collecting items for ONLY LOCAL RIO GRANDE VALLEY SOLDIERS that are currently stationed overseas. There are many large corporate sponsored organizations supplying things to the soldiers, but this one is specifically for soldiers from this part of Texas.

The following special items are requested:

• Fleece Blankets (Black, Brown, or Tan – Size 60 x 50)
• Hand and Foot Warmers
• Thermal Socks (Black)
• Travel Pillows (Black, Brown, or Tan)
• Bath Towels (Black, Brown, or Tan)
• Work Socks  (Black)

Because the American Military Support needs donations of individual personal care products to send to “Quality of Life Packages” (QLPs) Care Packages to Military Personnel who are from the Rio Grande Valley and deployed overseas the Idiots Club held a Fund Raiser on their behalf.

The fee just for postage to ship 250 of the “Quality of Life Packages” is $3,000. With the cost for personal care items and packaged food items being an additional cost, the International Idiots Club will continue accepting donations of any kind for the organization at all of our future functions.

During this years Independence Day weekend, the Idiots Club collected $94.00 in cash from the customers at Boomerang Billy’s Beach Bar, along with about $200 worth of packaged food items and other items donated by Leslie Blasing and Leonard and Lora McCarthy for the “Quality of Life Packages” and a check in the amount of $500.00 provided by the Idiots Club. All of the donated items and money were presented to Emma Alvarado, Co-Founder of the AMERICAN MILITARY SUPPORT organization.
