Nomination Time: 2013-2014 International Idiot’s Club Board of Director

It is that time of year again when Nominations are being accepted for the 2013-2014 International Idiot’s Club Board of Directors.

As of 03/01/2013 the persons listed below have accepted their nomination for the Positions they currently hold. If there are no additional nominees submitted, then the current Board of Directors will automatically be reinstalled to their current position.

If you would like to submit your name as a candidate, please provide your name, address and contact phone number and the position you are seeking. The deadline for submission for additional Nominees is 03/27/2013.

Qualifications for any of the positions are:

- Directors shall be members of the Club for one year prior to election
- Directors need not be residents of Texas.
- Nominees can submit their information for consideration by:

Leslie Blasing Named Female Vocalist of the Year

The International Idiots Club salutes Leslie Blasing!

The 2013 Valley Star Awards winners were announced in a special ceremony held Feb. 16 at Victoria Palms Resort in Donna in front of an 800-person audience. This year the star selections were a joint effort of Robert Ferguson and the Winter Texan Times. The award for Female Vocalist of the Year went to Leslie Blasing.

Leslie Blasing started out her set with a powerful Streisand song, “The Way We Were,” followed by a lively, “Any Man of Mine.” She did a little mimicking of Elvis with “Return to Sender,” followed by “My Little Runaway.” She slowed the pace with softer “Broken Wing,” by Martina McBride before ending with a lively polka, “Roll Out the Barrel.”

It was a fantastic show with the best entertainers in the Rio Grande Valley entertaining and receiving awards. With this quality of entertainment, it was probably the best Winter Texan show of the season.

The Mexican Toga Party and Winter Olympics will be at Boomerang Billy’s Beach Bar in South Padre Island, TX on Sunday February 24th, 2013. Join us for some fun in the sun -watch the waves, eat some food, have some drinks, listen and dance to the music of Leslie Blasing.

Leslie Blasing’s Mexican Toga Party and Winter Olympic is an annual event that she shares with the International Idiots Club and her friends on South Padre Island and South Texas. She will be serving some tamales, beans, fresh veggies with dip and other things that keep Olympians and spectators strong for this year’s competition.

The food will be served around 12:30 and the Winter Olympic Games will start around 1:30pm. The sign up for the games will start around 1:00. There are a limited amount of contestants that will be allowed to compete in each catagory:

The Famous Two-Man Luge

Leslie’s history of the Mexican toga party: It all started 30 years ago at The Blasing Farm outside of Hondo, Texas. When I was a junior in high school and wanted to have a party after our high school junior/senior play performance of M*A*S*H* (I was Hot Lips!)

At this Toga Party I wanted to serve Mexican food, so I decided to call it a Mexican Toga Party. Around this same time, the steady entourage of friends that were always at our farm, decided to have certain games with staunch competion – horseshoes was a mainstay, strobe light tennis, tetherball and other games were added through the years. It is only fitting that these games, food and fun have lasted througout the years and traveling with me all the way down here to the Island. The experience is priceless!! Make sure you join in as an Olympian or on the sidelines in your Toga cheering on your favorite athletes into the history books for the 33rd year celebration!

The Idiots Club is hosting the event to help Leslie Blasing raise money for the South Padre Island Fire Department’s Scholarship Fund.

Come to Palm Street Pier for a great time and have some fun with Music, Dancin’, Drinkin’ and Eatin’. Reminder, seating is on a First Come – First Seated arrangement, so be sure to get their early.

Winter Texans Pick Star Awards Winners

Cast your vote for your favorite entertainers, and you could win free tickets to the Valley Star Awards Showcase Feb. 16, 2013 at Victoria Palms Resort in Donna.

The Valley Star Awards Showcase is an evening of live entertainment as awards are presented to this season’s top entertainers performing for Winter Texans in the Rio Grande Valley. This year, Winter Texans will get to choose who receives the awards.

Awards will be presented to the top vote-getters in each or the following categories: Male Vocalist of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, Family Musical Group of the Year, Musical Group (not related) of the Year, Duet Musical Group of the Year, Rock & Roll Band of the Year, Country Western Band of the Year, Comedy Show of the Year, Novelty Act of the Year, Gospel Group of the Year and Bluegrass Group of the Year.

Entertainer of the Year will be awarded to the group or entertainer that receives the most votes in any one of these categories.

The Winter Texan Times, with Victoria Palms Resort and the Rio Grande Valley Activities Directors Association presents the ballot for this year’s Star Awards. The activities directors selected the three top nominees in each category. We’ve prepared the ballot and now it’s up to you to vote and select your favorite entertainer in each category.

There are several ways to submit your Valley Star Awards ballot: mail it to the Winter Texan Times at the address listed on the form in the January 31, 2013 paper; download and fill out the PDF version of the form; fax it; or email it. If you need a copy of the form for yourself or a friend, email us at survey@wintertexantimes.com and we’ll email a form to you that you can fill out and email back. Or, you can find a copy of the survey form on our website that you can print out and mail or fax back.

Encourage all your friends to vote also. We want to know who you think are this year’s best entertainers. Be sure your ballot gets to us by the Feb. 14, 2013 deadline. Limit one entry per person. Those who submit completed ballots will be entered in a drawing for free tickets to the Valley Star Awards Showcase. Three pairs of tickets will be given away.

Tickets for the awards show are $10. The show starts at 6 p.m. and doors will open at 5 p.m. Six entertainers will perform between awards presentations, including Leslie Blasing, David Church, Willie Nash McColl, Freddie & Sheila Pelletier, John Sager and Gordy and Debbie Wensel.

The 1st Annual Penguin Plunge was held on January 1, 2013 at Boomerang Billy’s Beach Bar.

The International Idiots Club joined with Andy Hancock, who is a master at sand sculpturing, for a brand new tradition to ‘wing in the New Year’! Several hundred people showed up to take a dip in the chilly waters of the Gulf in celebration of 2013.

Besides the encounter with cold waves, there was music by Leslie Blasing, FREE sand castle lessons and a raffle for a wooden Penguin, which Andy carved on the beach in front of a crowd that gathered at Boomies. All of the proceeds from the event will benefit the treatment of Hydrocephalus, a medical condition in which there is an abnormal accumulation of fluid on the brain.

Because of the successful turnout of this FIRST-EVER event, plans are being made to make it an annual event.

Showtime is every Monday starting January 14, 2013 from 2:00 – 3:30pm. The shows will be presented in the Ballroom at the Hilton Garden Inn at 7010 Padre Blvd., South Padre Island, TX.

Doors open at 1:00 pm for VIP’s and the General Public is welcomed at 1:30 PM
$8.00 advanced tickets and $10.00 at the door.

International Idiots Club Holiday Parade Float Wins Third Place!

As Leslie explained to the crowd, “We won 3rd place in our Division, which was non-profit organizations. However, only two floats actually showed up.” We did, in fact get 3rd place, but since this was our first ever attempt at entering we were proud for even getting that. The award money will be put in a “Special Fund” for next years float, which we hope will be even better.

A big THANK YOU to all of the Idiot Club Members that volunteered to provide the decorations for the float but came early to put it all together and stayed late as we were put in towards the end of the line. From the yelling and cheers of the spectators we could tell that they were impressed with our entry.

Member Appreciation Day January 20, 2013

The International Idiots Club will hold its Annual Member Appreciation Day on January 20, 2013 at Boomerang Billy’s Beach Bar and Grill in South Padre Island, Texas. The festivities will be from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.

The First 100 CURRENT Members receive:

A Free Hot Dog and Fries
A Free Beer or Soft Drink

Current members are also eligible to participate in game challenges for prizes. Everyone is encouraged to participate in our raffle which supports the International Idiots Club charitable endeavors. Tickets for the raffle or $1.00 each.

The International Idiots Club will also present the 2012 Idiot of the Year Award.

NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2O12 IDIOT OF THE YEAR AWARD

Nominations for the 2012 International Idiots Club “Idiot of the Year” are due by January, 16th, 2013.

To make a nomination submit a name and the reason why you think your nominee should be selected. So what if you want to nominate yourself? Go ahead…but you will have to tell us what you REALLY DID to be considered.

There is only one catch to the process, the nominee must be a bonafide Idiot with a current active International Idiots Club membership. If you do not know the if the person’s membership is current, just use our web site, select the Advanced Member Search and type their name then select FIND AN IDIOT. The last two columns lists the month and year the membership was issued so you will just have to figure out one year from that date is their EXPIRATION DATE. If you just want to submit the person’s name with the reason, the judges will determine the nominees membership status for you.

To submit a person’s name for nomination you can do it one of the following three ways:

1) Simply use the”CONTACT US” form at the web site. Click here to find it.

2) Mail the information which must be postmarked by January 17th, 2013.
